Now Accepting Submissions for 4.1!

Submissions for Relief Issue 4.1 are open!  Click here to get over to the Online Submission System and submit your pieces.  If you are unsure about the formatting or requirements, be sure to check out the Submit Your Work tab at the top.

Disregard the Following

This week, Coach came across some “Love Inspired Guidelines.”  Click here to check them out.  (And don’t stop before you reach the part about waltzing.)

*NOTE: Any submission that strictly follows those “Love Inspired Guidelines” will be promptly rejected.  Relief encourages writers to embrace their form and to write what is true without worrying about unnecessary censorship.

On a final note…made up of 50,000 words

It wouldn’t be right to acknowledge those of you (including Relief’s intern) who are participating in NaNoWriMo this year.  We know it’s hard writing 50,000 words in 30 days, which is why WriteABookIn30Days.com exists.  WABI30D was created by our very own Coach, and his course gives you motivation and encouragement as you push your word count skyward.  There’s even a FREE Mini-Course available, and anything that’s FREE is worth checking out.

Fall/Winter Writing

Our fall/winter reading period will open tomorrow, November 3, 2009. Log in and submit your essays, short stories, and poems!

Also, if you’re looking for motivation to write a novel, make sure you check out WriteABookIn30Days.com!  It’s a great motivational system to get you to increase your word count and get that great idea you’ve been thinking about out and on the page.  (It also makes a great companion for NaNoWriMo.org!)

Registration for the 2010 Festival of Faith and Writing at Calvin College is open!  The festival is scheduled for April 15-17, 2010, and registration is running at $165 right now.  (The price tag will increase to $180 by February 1, 2010.)  Student registration is only $80, but spaces are limited.  Groups of six or more can register with a $15 discount, and professors that bring six or more students can get in free.

Relief plans on attending this wonderful event and we hope to see you there!

Next couple weeks worth of blogs

As Relief is heading towards opening up submissions for issue 4.1, we thought it would be a great time to highlight work that we find exceptional.  The books we will be reviewing are: Making Crosses: A Creative Connection to God by Ellen Morris Prewitt, 64 Questions by David Holper, and mY Generation: A Real Journey of Change and Hope by Josh Riebock.

While these books can each give you a great idea of what kind of submissions we are expecting, one of the best ways to understand us best is by reading one of our issues.  If you haven’t read one before, you can download the eBook here or visit the store and purchase a copy here.

The New Blog!!!

Just two very short weeks after we announced that we would be switching our blog (and the rest of the Relief site) to a new format, we’ve arrived and we feel great about it!

We do warn you that it isn’t perfect yet.  While we took a lot of time making sure everything was just right, there are certain issues with this transition that can only be figured out in daily application.  If you do come across a problem, we ask that you please hold off on your concerns for at least another week.

Common Questions

What happened to all of the great content from the “old” site?
It is currently under the scrutiny of a tree full of computer elves.  When they are done with it, the “old” site will have its own link in the sidebar.

When are submissions open again?
Submissions will be open for Relief issue 4.1 on November 1.  To clarify our submission periods, we’ve made a link in the drop-down menu under Submit Your Work.

Where did the Online Submissions System go?
The entire Online Submission System has moved here.  There is also a link for it in the sidebar.  Any old links to the submission system–or any links to old Relief content for that matter–are not working.  We recommend that you update any old links you may have made.

The text on this page is too small/too big/just right…how do I change it?
At the top, right hand side of the page is an image that looks like this: Aa<>.  If you click on the big A, it makes the text bigger.  If you click on the little A, it makes the text smaller.  (If you click on the arrows, you are changing the size of the margins.)

AA<>.
