Yesterday morning, I received an email from Heather that said, “Why did Ben post Relief Recommends Wednesday when it is Thursday?”It was of course, Tuesday.Clearly our new blog schedule will be hindered by our inability to tell what day it is.Or maybe we’ll just be EDGY and call the days whatever we want.Ha!
Apparently someone’s been saying nice things about us…
Yes, it was posted a while ago, but we just stumbled over these kind words from Relief author Amy Letter, whose work will be appearing in the upcoming August issue.Click on over and check it out (and in case you’re curious, Chet is our very own Fiction Editor, Alan Ackmann).
BBQing with a Blogger
We had the opportunity to drag Relief blogger Derek Joseph to church and then back to Alan and Heather’s for a BBQ over Memorial Day weekend. It rained but Alan still cooked some wonderful burgers on his brand new grill under an umbrella. We did get to enjoy the patio furniture later in the afternoon.Derek and his wife are in the process of moving to Indianapolis, so we fit as much conversation as we could into his visit while he’s still got one foot in Chicagoland.
Check out Relief on Facebook and Twitter
Relief just jumped into the Facebook world with groups for Relief: A Quarterly Christian Expression, Relief Published Authors, and Coach’s Midnight Diner. We’re still adding content to the sites, but feel free to click over and become a friend. We’ve also added the twitter box so that you can know more than you probably want to about what we’re doing at every moment of the day.If you play the twitter game, get our updates at www.twitter.com/ReliefJournal .
Presales Pricing Ending Soon
The printer is working its magic with Issue 2.2 as we speak, and we’ll be shipping soon. But until we do, you can still save some dollars on the latest and greatest from Relief.Head right over to the store before you forget!
Production News: It’s been a busy week here at Relief. We’re in the final stages of getting Volume Two, Issue Two to print. There’s nothing as fun and exciting as quality time with a page full of words and a ruler. While we’re putting the finishing touches on Issue 2.2, we’re also making final decisions on work for our August issue. Authors who submitted work before April 1st should hear back within the next couple of weeks (if they haven’t already).
Relief Writer’s Database: The Relief Writer’s Database is now for sale at Relief’s online store. It tracks submissions, average reply times from journals, creates SASEs, and much more! The database debuted at Calvin in April to rave reviews, though much to the dismay of Mac users everywhere, the database is currently only available for PC users running Windows XP or Windows Vista. Click here to buy a copy ! We're hoping to a version available for Macs by the time AWP rolls around, but no promises as we're not really Mac users. PCs rule!
Coach’s Midnight Diner: Submissions close at the end of May for Volume Two of Coach’s Midnight Diner! The Diner Editors will be making decisions over the next few weeks. Check it out or submit your work at www.themidnightdiner.com .
Economically, that is.One of Relief's generous readers, who prefers to remain anonymous, wrote to let us know that he or she is sending some of the recently received stimulus money to Relief.
Why not?
It's unexpected and unbudgeted and is not truly a return on money we've already tithed out of. If you're interested in helping Relief stay in business, we're currently in need of, well, stimulus.Click here to head over to the donation page .
Volume 2, Issue 2
We'll be posting author bios and presales tomorrow for our Spring Issue!
We've got a great May issue wrapped up for you and headed to your doorsteps in, well, June... I'm blaming Heather, who first hijacked most of our editors to move her stuff to a safe and mold-free environment [long story] and then had the audacity to get sick [Salmonella] in the same weekend!(We love ya, Heather!) We're glad to have her back in the game now, though, and we're rolling out 2.2 as soon as possible.
Don't let the happy and perky picture to the left fool you! We are all still recovering from a very long weekend (and a very good conference, mind you). With that said, we at Relief are not feeling very news-y today. I know you are sad, but we'll post some new content soon.
Okay, maybe a few updates. I know Ben is working on Why Writers Need a Website, Part 2 and Brad is working on The Craft of Christian Poetry, Part 2. We've also hired (tricked?) some new bloggers to write more content for us. So stay tuned. Project Blog-a-lot has begun! We are bloggers...here us type! (yeah, I still need more sleep...).
Coach's Midnight Diner , our hardboiled genre anthology of horror, crime/detective/mystery, and paranormal fiction with a Christian slant is still open for submissions until May 1st on the Relief Writers Network. Get your stuff in before then!
Relief Issue 2.2 Authors Will Be Announced Soon!
Authors for Relief Volume 2 Issue 2 have been selected, contacted, and will be announced right here!
