Image...at least, most of the site is back. There's still some stuff that's broken that I'm working on fixing.

Some of you thought we were dead, but oh no, we will not go quietly into the night or any other thing. The server just blew up, that's all. And after a ridiculous amount of time and slogging through corrupt backups, SQL stuff,  and a whole lot of other stupid technical stuff, the site is back.

Mostly.

The RWN is down right now, the store is blitzing out, and I'm sure there's several other things broken as well. But hang tough with me, I'll get 'er fixed.

CNF Anthology Nominations

Each year since 2006, Creative Nonfiction Journal has sponsored an anthology of the best creative nonfiction from the calendar year. Editors of both print and online journals may make nominations from their own publication. Editor Dinty Moore makes selections for the anthology, which will be published by Norton.

I sent off our nominations from Relief a couple of weeks ago, and I did so with great satisfaction. Whether or not they are selected for Best of Creative Nonfiction. Vol. 3, I am so proud to have these essays representing Relief’s work before Dinty and his readers. Two of our three nominations are pieces forthcoming in the next couple of issues. Watch for them. Here’s a sneak peek.

From issue 2.2

“The World I Breathe” by Karen Miedrich-Luo

Coming up in issue 2.3 (August/September)
“Letters Home from Sunshine Mountain” by Jill Noel Kandel

Coming up in issue 2.4 (November/December)
“Dead End” by Jessica Belt

. . . so we can ship you your Relief Issue 2.2! That's right, friends, your Issue 2.2 is on it's way to your doorstep and should be arriving next week.

What's that? You mean you haven't ordered yours yet? Your subscription ran out? You haven't subscribed? Well, no worries, because you can order a single issue or subscribe right now! That's right, friend, through the magic of the Internet, you can jump right on over to the Relief Store and get that done right now!

However, I should put in a disclaimer here that an issue of Relief does not make Julian fries, make your teeth whiter, or seal holes in your gutters (I know, I've tried, and dude, what a freakin' mess!). But there's some good stuff in 2.2 that you don't want to miss!

How Many Editors Does It Take to Move an Apartment Full of Stuff? PDF Print E-mail

At least five. Our Assistant Editor Heather and her husband Fiction Editor Alan discovered a problem with their apartment, and so the Relief team here in Chicago kicked some serious ass packing and moving all their stuff in six days start to finish. It has put a delay in our regularly scheduled programming, but when life happens, our team moves. Ha ha. I'm a funny guy. Get it? Moves? Oh never mind.

So please forgive the delay while Heather and Alan get settled into their new place, and we'll be rockin' and rollin' in no time again.

Diner Subs Open Until May 31

Submisisons for Coach's Midnight Diner will remain open until May 31st. After receiving some harried emails from folks we met at Calvin ("I just found out about the Diner! My story is almost finished but not quite! Can I please have more time?!?!?") I decided to go ahead and leave it open. So go ahead and finish your Shatner on a Plane story and get it in!

The slogan above is something I saw on a church sign many years ago in Waukegan, IL and have always wished I had a camera with me to take a picutre of the sign, as I just found it to be hilarious.  That sign sparked a hobby of mine to take pictures of funny signs.

Flippin Church of God in Flippin ArkansasAvoid Harming Children SignThe picture to the left is of a sign I saw in Flippin Arkansas.  To the right, is a sign I saw outside of a daycare in Nashville, TN.  And below, is a sign for a store down in Florida.  Knives and Christmas!  Who would have thought that'd be a successful pairing.  But it worked!  My husband and I went in and bought pocket knives and browsed Christmas decorations in June.

Unfortunately though, I seem to have fallen out the habit of taking pictures this past year.  So, to get my sign fix, I decided to simply go to Google Images and type in "Funny Church Signs."  Man, I was not disappointed!  If you are looking for a distraction, I really suggest you stroll through some of the pages.  It's really funny.
