Christian Aesthetic?

I have been working on a series of short stories that deal with rekindling/exploring the aesthetic of Christian faith. Putting aside, for the moment, the blatant marketing of the gospel and the poor doctrine that permeates the greater part of our Western Churches, my project has been to try and bring a different aesthetic to the surface of my own faith. It is a difficult project because it relies on "vibe" and "feel" and metabolizing the bible with those experiences of life that seem to speak to that deeper part of my soul: that part where literature and art live: that creative place.

I am pushed further and further into my own (almost Kierkegaardian) inwardness and solitude because I have not found a balance between being a Christian and being an artist: of loving literature (in all of its grainy and porous struggle) and of hoping for authentic faith amidst a world where authenticity is difficult to obtain.

This has been my project and it has been a challenge. I would love to hear if other people are writing in a way that aims at, not just the ideas of Christianity or the morals or the bible or the dictates of faith (all good things) but at the aesthetic of faith.

Suffice it to say, I have been reading Ecclesiastes more frequently and listening to Sufjan a little more often. :)

Also, I want to post some stories but am not seeing anyone else doing that. What's up? Is this a good platform for posting and getting some good criticism? (Sorry, but I just found Relief and am new...but all excited and shit! Christians...writers...beer anyone?)

aesthetics in Christianity

lordsservant

I had to look up the word aesthetics, oh brother, because I wasn't sure what it meant,
aesthetics - the laws and principles determining the beautiful in nature, art, taste, etc. (for anyone else that might not know what that means)hmmmmmmmmm, I would send a message to Coach and perhaps he can say if it's okay to blog a short story for criticism, I'm not sure and I am fairly new here 2. A couple of us have written some poems which of course we'd like feedback on. I, myself, don't see anything wrong with it, but perhaps that's not what the blogs are 4, explore with da Coach.

I love art and literature also. I don't just read Christian authors, though perhaps alot of Christians do? Hmmmmm. That's a good question, I suppose, for a blog. I read James Patterson, Tami Hoag, Archer Mayer, Nora Roberts, lots others, and alot of the classics I love such as Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Fall of the House of Usher (Yup, Poe). I love art 2, but not all art, and not all literature because of my faith in Jesus Christ and the new nature he has given me.

I, myself, haven't tried this in my poetry.

Take care.

Pam
