Requirements


Short Fiction

Stories should not exceed 8,000 words.  An author can submit up to THREE stories per reading period.  Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please withdraw your piece immediately if it is accepted elsewhere.

Poetry
Poetry should not exceed 1000 words.  An author can submit up to FIVE poems per reading period.  Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please immediately withdraw your piece if it is accepted elsewhere.  We are looking for poetry that is well-written and makes sense.

Creative Non-Fiction
Creative Non-Fiction should not exceed 5,000 words.  An author can submit up to THREE pieces per reading period.  Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please withdraw your piece immediately if it is accepted elsewhere.

Graphic Narrative/Comics
We are still determining our upper limit on graphic narrative/comics, but a safe limit is probably around 10-12 pages. Longer work of exceptional quality may be considered, but you may be asked to trim the length or break it up into more than one issue. Work should be prepared for black and white printing in a 7.4” x 9.7” book. Please use a .jpg, .tiff, or Adobe Illustrator file format of at least 300dpi resolution. An artist can submit up to THREE pieces per reading period.Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please withdraw your work immediately if it is accepted elsewhere.

Images/Photography
Images/photography should be prepared for black and white printing in a 7.4” x 9.7” book. Please use a .jpg, .tiff, or Adobe Illustrator file format of at least 300dpi resolution. An artist can submit up to FIVE pieces per reading period. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please withdraw your work immediately if it is accepted elsewhere.

Interviews
We accept queries regarding author/artist interviews. Submit a description of yourself, your proposed subject and his/her work, why you think this interview is relevant for Relief, and your strategy for conducting and completing the interview to editor[at]reliefjournal.com
